The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has argued that a potential Atiku Abubakar–Peter Obi joint presidential ticket in 2027 would face serious rejection from key voting blocs, particularly Christians and South East voters

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Keyamo claimed he had insider knowledge of ongoing discussions aimed at pairing the former Vice President with the ex-Anambra governor.
“Let me drop a little expo, even though it won’t favour them,” he said. “What they’re working on now is bringing Peter Obi and Atiku together.”
Keyamo insisted that making Obi Atiku’s running mate would erode much of the Christian support that helped deliver over six million votes to Obi under the Labour Party in 2023.
“The moment Obi becomes deputy to Atiku, that Christian demographic behind his six million votes will evaporate. Don’t forget, the President too has a pastor as a wife, so we’ll pull some of them and boost our numbers,” he said.
The minister added that Obi’s strong South East base would also crumble under an Atiku-led ticket.
“That South East bloc that supported him — once it’s Atiku on top, they will withdraw. They won’t back him,” he said.
Keyamo further claimed that prominent clerics would not mobilise support for an elderly Muslim candidate. “Pastors won’t come out campaigning for an 80-year-old Muslim president. They just won’t. That demographic will be gone,” he concluded.
