The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has announced that all day and boarding schools across the state will resume on Sunday, April 6, following a five-week break for Ramadan and Salah celebrations

This was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Jalaludeen Usman. He noted that the break, which began on February 26, was part of a phased academic calendar for the 2024/2025 school year.
According to the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Mohammed Rimin Zayam, the state government remains committed to education and urges parents and guardians to ensure their children return on time to avoid academic disruption.
“As education remains a top priority for the Bauchi State Government under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, the Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring the success of all students,” the statement read.
The ministry also revealed plans to commence CBT training for students sponsored by the state government to write the JAMB examination.
The second term initially began on January 5 and was split into two parts: the first from January 5 to February 28, and the second from April 6 to April 29, following the Ramadan break.
However, the extended closure has sparked criticism from some private school owners, particularly those of the Christian faith, who argue that the order unfairly affects all schools despite their mixed religious compositions.
“This is not the first time schools have been ordered to close,” a source said. “In previous years, the state allowed schools to choose whether to close or remain open during Ramadan, following engagements with education stakeholders.”
The renewed directive, some argue, marks a return to a blanket policy that limits academic access during the religious season.
