Filmmaker Biodun Stephen has shed light on the prevalence of stereotypes in Nollywood movies, attributing the phenomenon to commercialization and the pursuit of financial success

In an interview with Pulse, she explained that filmmakers often replicate successful movie formulas without understanding the underlying reasons for their success.
This leads to a surge in similar films, as everyone tries to cash in on the trend.
Stephen Biodun likened the situation to a business venture, where entrepreneurs replicate successful products or services without innovating or considering alternative factors that contributed to their success.
She emphasized that filmmaking is a gamble, and the desire for return on investment often drives creative decisions.
The commercialization of Nollywood has led to a trend of copying successful genres, such as campus films, gang films, and comedies, without exploring unique storytelling opportunities.
Stephen Biodun urged filmmakers to move beyond the “razzle dazzle” approach and embrace simplicity and originality in their craft.
