Celtic confirmed on Monday that Brendan Rodgers has resigned as the club’s manager, ending his second spell at the Scottish giants
Following Sunday’s 3-1 Scottish Premiership defeat to Hearts, which left Celtic eight points behind their Edinburgh rivals, Rodgers decided to step down.

“Celtic Football Club can confirm that football manager Brendan Rodgers has today tendered his resignation,” the club said in a statement. “Brendan will leave his role with immediate effect. He leaves with our thanks for the role he has played during a period of continued success for the club, and we wish him further success in the future.”
The club added that the search for a permanent replacement is already underway. In the meantime, former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill and ex-player Shaun Maloney will oversee first-team duties.
Rodgers, 52, returned to Celtic in June 2023, adding back-to-back league titles to his earlier successes from 2017 and 2018. His first stint between 2016 and 2019 saw Celtic complete successive league and cup trebles, including an unbeaten 106-point season—the first Scottish top-flight team to go undefeated since 1899.
He also managed Swansea, Liverpool, and Leicester before returning to Celtic. In his latest tenure, he continued domestic dominance by winning the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup alongside the 2023-24 and 2024-25 league titles.
However, this season brought difficulties, including a shocking Champions League exit to Kazakhstan’s Kairat Almaty, signaling turbulent times ahead for the Glasgow club.
