China has sharply condemned the United States’ planned intervention in Venezuela’s oil sector, criticising President Donald Trump for what it described as a blatant violation of international law
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning called the US action an “outrageous use of force” and said Washington’s demand that Venezuela manage its oil resources under an “America First” approach amounts to harassment that infringes on the rights of the Venezuelan people.
She added that China’s interests in Venezuela must also be respected.

“Venezuela has full and permanent sovereignty over its natural resources and economic activities,” Mao said, stressing that foreign interference undermines international norms.
China is a major ally of Venezuela and the country’s largest oil buyer. Beijing’s statement follows Trump’s post on his Truth Social platform, in which he said Venezuela’s interim government would hand over 30 to 50 million barrels of “sanctioned oil” to the US, with proceeds meant to benefit both Venezuelans and Americans.
The US had earlier carried out an operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of authoritarian leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, over alleged drug offences, with Trump announcing that the US would temporarily take control of the country.
Trump has also highlighted the economic potential of Venezuela’s oil industry, stating that major US companies would invest in restoring infrastructure and boosting production. China, along with other international partners, has condemned the operation as a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty, warning against unilateral military actions that escalate geopolitical tensions.
