Fans of Nigerian dancehall star Cynthia Morgan, now known as Madrina, have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support her after an old video of the singer expressing distress resurfaced online

In the old Instagram Live video by Connecting the Dots Africa (#ctda_media), which trended across social media platforms on Friday, the Edo-born artiste appeared teary and visibly frustrated as she appealed to Nigerians for spiritual support rather than financial aid.

She said,”I am not going to lie, all I need right now is prayers. I need them to pray for me.

“I am not going to say anybody should come and give me money. If you give me money, cool stuff.”

The clip, though recorded over a year ago, sparked fresh concern from fans and celebrities alike, with many calling for financial assistance to help the singer regain her footing.

Soon after, a fan-led GoFundMe page emerged, prompting Cynthia to share the link via her Instagram handle, #trulymadrina

“Good day, everyone. In continuation of my previous post, here is a snapshot of my GoFundMe page with the link in my bio. Thank you, #queen_zinnyb,” she posted.

In a new video posted on Friday, the former Northside Entertainment signee clarified that the trending video was old and that she is currently in a better place emotionally.

Cynthia said,”Good morning, everyone. God bless you all. There is a video of me making rounds on social media, so I just want to address that. I will like to tell everyone that that video is over a year.

“I will like to let everyone know that I am well. Thank you for your concern. I may not be able to respond to every message.”

She acknowledged the gesture of the fan who initiated the GoFundMe, adding that she is still deciding whether to approve its public release.

Cynthia said,”There is a fan of mine that went into the extent of creating a GoFundMe account for me. I’m looking into it to see if I will like the account to go public.

“In 2021, there was a GoFundMe that was opened for me, but unfortunately, the person that was handling it said the account was shut down. So I didn’t get any money from the GoFundMe apart from the money sent to my account.”

Speaking further, the singer revealed she had moved on from music, citing past experiences that left her “traumatised.”

“My future goal is not to get back into music. I am now into real estate, and also in the ministry, of which I will be dropping more details into that in due time actually.”

Cynthia, who rose to fame in the early 2010s with hits like German Juice and Don’t Break My Heart, said the GoFundMe should not be seen as a plan to reignite her music career.
