The lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has urged Nigerians to hold Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, and his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, responsible if she or her supporters face any attacks
Akpoti-Uduaghan raised the alarm in a post on her official Facebook page, emphasizing her commitment to a peaceful Sallah celebration.
“My dear people of Kogi Central, I look forward to our peaceful Sallah celebrations today. However, should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Òdodo, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible,” she wrote.
Her statement came hours after she vowed to proceed with her scheduled visit to her constituency for the Eid-el-Fitr break and a planned homecoming rally, despite speculation about its cancellation. She urged her supporters to dismiss such claims and reaffirmed her right to engage with her constituents.
On Monday, the Kogi State Government banned rallies and public gatherings, citing security concerns. The government also suspended fishing and other activities following recent violence in Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette, which led to the loss of two lives.
Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said the restrictions aimed to prevent security breaches. Similarly, the state’s Police Commissioner, Miller Dantawaye, warned Akpoti-Uduaghan against holding her planned rally, citing the government’s ban on political gatherings.
Despite the warnings, videos of the rally surfaced on social media, showing hundreds of her supporters—mainly women—singing and drumming in anticipation of her return.
As of the time of filing this report, Kogi Senator Bashir Haroon had shared a live feed of the ongoing rally.
