Former African Democratic Congress (ADC) Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, has revealed he was offered three ministerial appointments to stop plans of turning the ADC into a coalition opposition party

Speaking at the ADC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, Nwosu said, “Some people tried to discourage us with promises of automatic ministerial appointments. They wanted to give me three slots—one for myself and two for people I choose. But I said no. I chose a democratic future for Nigeria.”

At the meeting, the party handed over its leadership to former Senate President David Mark, who was named interim National Chairman, while ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was appointed National Secretary.

Nwosu said the pressure to drop the coalition idea was part of a larger effort to push Nigeria toward a one-party system.

“Nigeria cannot be a one-party state after all we did to ensure the military exited governance,” he said.

He disclosed that the transition was closely observed by seven officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), emphasizing transparency. The ADC has now rebranded as the Coalition Party, officially launched on July 2.

Nwosu claimed the party has grown rapidly, now boasting over 3 million members, 28 senators, and more than 60 House of Reps members.

“We were worried by the declining fortunes of our democracy. But we insist on the coalition in the best interest of Nigeria,” he added.
