Iranian media on Monday denied any ongoing negotiations with the United States, contradicting US President Donald Trump’s claim of talks aimed at ending hostilities

“There are no talks between Tehran and Washington,” Mehr News Agency reported, citing Iran’s foreign ministry, and suggested that Trump’s statements were intended “to reduce energy prices.” Other Iranian outlets echoed the same position.

The rebuttal comes after Trump’s social media post, which had immediately caused oil prices to fall.

Trump had stated that Washington and Tehran engaged in “productive conversations” over the past two days toward “a complete and total resolution” of tensions in the Middle East. He added that, based on the discussions so far, he had instructed the Pentagon to “postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings.” He also said talks would continue “throughout the week.”

The announcement came just before a Monday night deadline, when Trump had warned Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz shipping lane or risk having its power plants “obliterated.” In response, Iran threatened to deploy naval mines in the Gulf and target power facilities across the region, escalating rhetoric amid warnings of a potential historic energy crisis if the US-Israel-Iran conflict persists.
