Barcelona icon and current Inter Miami star Jordi Alba has confirmed he will retire from professional football at the end of this season
The 36-year-old described the decision as the right moment to close a significant chapter in his life.

“The time has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life,” Alba said. “I’ve decided to bring my professional football career to an end at the conclusion of this season. I do so with complete conviction, with peace, and with happiness.”
Alba’s journey began at Barcelona’s La Masia academy, though he was released at 16 for being considered too small. He later played for Cornellà and Valencia, transitioning from winger to left-back before returning to Barcelona in 2012. Over eleven seasons, he became a key figure, winning six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey trophies, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup, while forming an iconic partnership with Lionel Messi. He made over 450 appearances and served as Barcelona’s fourth captain.
Internationally, Alba debuted for Spain in 2011, contributing to their Euro 2012 triumph with a goal in the final against Italy. He also represented Spain in multiple World Cups and European Championships and captained the team to victory in the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League.
Alba currently plays for Inter Miami alongside Messi and Luis Suárez and will retire at the end of the Major League Soccer season, bringing to a close one of modern football’s most celebrated careers.
