The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has slammed Kano Pillars with heavy sanctions following violent incidents during their Matchday 8 home clash against Shooting Stars on Sunday at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano
In a Summary Jurisdiction Notice dated October 13 and signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, the league found the club guilty of multiple violations, including poor security arrangements, supporter misconduct, throwing dangerous objects, and assaulting visiting players and match officials.

According to the notice, “Kano Pillars failed to provide adequate and effective security, allowing unauthorized persons access to restricted areas and the field of play. The club also failed to control their supporters, leading to harassment and assault of Shooting Stars players and match officials.”
As punishment, the NPFL deducted three points and three goals from Pillars’ accumulated total for assaulting match officials. The club was also fined a total of N4 million for security failures, throwing objects onto the pitch, supporter misconduct, and bringing the league into disrepute.
An additional N2 million fine was imposed for the assault on Shooting Stars players and officials, while N1.5 million was levied as compensatory damages—N250,000 each—to the affected match officials. Another N2 million fine was placed as compensation for the medical treatment of injured Shooting Stars players and officials.
Furthermore, the NPFL has ordered Kano Pillars to play their home matches in Katsina for the rest of the season, or at least ten games, pending proof that such incidents will not recur. The Sani Abacha Stadium will remain closed to Pillars’ home fixtures indefinitely until the club demonstrates compliance.
The club has also been instructed to identify and prosecute those responsible for Sunday’s violence and to submit a new and effective matchday security plan to the NPFL within seven days.
Kano Pillars have 48 hours to either accept the decision or file an appeal. However, the league warned that any frivolous appeal could attract further sanctions under Rule E1 of the NPFL Framework.
The punishment follows nationwide condemnation of the chaos that marred the high-profile fixture, which has been widely criticized by football fans and stakeholders as a stain on the image of Nigerian football.
