Nigerian Singer Logos Olori Defends Use of Songwriters in Music Industry

1

Nigerian artist Logos Olori, signed to Davido’s DMW label, recently addressed the controversy surrounding the use of songwriters in the music industry.

In an interview with City 105.1 FM, Olori defended this practice, revealing that top Nigerian artists like Burna Boy and Wizkid also employ songwriters.

Olori explained that as artists become more successful, their time for writing songs decreases due to busy schedules. He stated, “When you’ve 10 shows in a week in different countries, you’ll understand that you need a songwriter.”

The singer pointed out that using songwriters is common in the global music industry, mentioning international stars like Chris Brown and Michael Jackson.

He added, “Davido is currently on tour immediately after his wedding. He writes his songs sometimes but most times he has to do the business part of it.”

Olori emphasized that while up-and-coming artists often write their own songs, established artists may need assistance to balance their workload. He suggested that fans can check song credits on platforms like Spotify to see that many top artists use songwriters.

This statement comes in response to criticism Davido has faced for using songwriters, with Olori aiming to normalize this practice in the Nigerian music scene. By mentioning other popular artists, he highlights that this is a widespread industry practice, not unique to any one artist.
