FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has issued a stern warning to ground rent defaulters in the territory, stating that properties of those who fail to meet the payment deadline risk being forfeited to the FCT Administration
The minister spoke to journalists yesterday after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in Wuse and Life Camp. He emphasized that no further extensions would be granted, noting that the two-week and presidential grace periods offered to defaulters four months ago have long expired.

Wike warned that officials of the FCTA would seal the premises of defaulters, and the properties would automatically revert to the government.
He said: “If you have not paid, we will seal up the premises and the property becomes the property of the FCT Administration. It is unfortunate that most Nigerians who complain don’t want to abide by the rules. When we started enforcement, there was even a presidential intervention giving them two or three more weeks. But it’s been more than four months, and we cannot carry out projects without people paying their taxes. We made publications extending the deadline, but we cannot keep extending. This is the last time.”
On ongoing projects, Wike disclosed that the procurement process for the Abuja bus terminals is expected to conclude before the end of the year. He added that the administration is evaluating applicants and their fleet capacities to ensure proper operation.
Regarding the infrastructure projects he inspected, including the Transit Way N2 linking the Central Business District to Wuse and the Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) from Life Camp Junction to Karmo, Wike expressed satisfaction with progress and quality of work, noting assurances from contractors that the projects would be completed on schedule.
