The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Thursday officially retired former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, marking the end of his distinguished career
The retirement ceremony took place in Abuja and was attended by senior police officers and family members, including his wife, Elizabeth Egbetokun.

At the event, Egbetokun described serving as IGP as one of the highest honours of his life. He highlighted achievements during his tenure, including the expansion of operational capabilities, strengthening of investigative units, and upgrades to the cybercrime department.
Egbetokun was appointed IGP in 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, succeeding Usman Baba, who served under the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. Upon taking office, he pledged to tackle criminal activities nationwide.
Born in September 1964 in Egbado South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Egbetokun joined the police as a cadet Assistant Superintendent on March 3, 1990.
His later years in office drew attention as he remained in the role beyond the mandatory retirement age of 60 and 35 years of service under Section 18(8) of the Police Act 2020. The NPF clarified that he was completing the four-year term outlined in his appointment letter.
