Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that midfielder Rodri will miss the remainder of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and meniscus damage in his right knee
Rodri suffered the injury during last weekend’s draw against Arsenal and has undergone surgery. The 28-year-old Spanish international will not return until next season.
“He had surgery this morning – ACL and some meniscus,” Guardiola said. “So, next season he will be here. This season is over for him.”
Rodri’s absence will significantly impact Manchester City, as the team has not lost any of their last 48 Premier League matches when he has played.
He has been instrumental in four title-winning sides since joining in 2019 and scored the winning goal in the 2023 Champions League final.
Guardiola acknowledged the significance of Rodri’s injury, stating, “It’s a lot of months without an important player for us, everybody knows it.”
Additionally, Kevin De Bruyne will miss Saturday’s game at Newcastle.
Rodri recently spoke out about the excessive fixture workload, suggesting players might consider striking due to the overloaded calendar. His injury highlights concerns about player welfare and scheduling.
