The British actress Olivia Hussey, who captivated audiences with her iconic portrayal of Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 film adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet,” has died at the age of 73

Her family announced her passing on December 27, 2024, describing her as a “remarkable person” whose kindness and wisdom touched the lives of everyone she knew.
Born on April 17, 1951, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Hussey moved to London with her family at the age of seven. She began her acting career as a teenager, training at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. Her breakout role as Juliet came when she was just 15 years old, earning her a Golden Globe for “New Star of the Year” and launching her to international fame.
Hussey went on to build a diverse career in film, starring in a range of movies including the 1974 cult horror classic “Black Christmas” and the 1978 adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Death on the Nile.” She also appeared in “Jesus of Nazareth” (1977) and “Psycho IV: The Beginning” (1990).
In 2023, Hussey made headlines when she and her “Romeo and Juliet” co-star Leonard Whiting sued the studio behind the film over a controversial nude scene, alleging child abuse. The lawsuit was later dismissed.
Hussey is survived by her husband, David Eisley, their three children, and a grandchild. Her passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes and condolences from fans and fellow actors.
