Veteran journalist and media personality Reuben Abati has launched a scathing attack on Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accusing him of being disrespectful and ungrateful to those who played pivotal roles in his political rise

Speaking on Arise TV, Abati didn’t mince words as he criticized Wike’s recent comments about his former boss, Rotimi Amaechi. During a media parley on Monday, June 3, Wike dismissed Amaechi’s concerns over hunger in Nigeria, suggesting his statements were politically motivated.
“Now that they are out of power, they say they are hungry. It’s not hunger for food. It’s hunger for power,” Wike had said.
In response, Abati said Wike has a troubling pattern of “talking carelessly” about his political mentors and urged President Bola Tinubu to be wary of him.
“I think that Nyesom Wike is very rude and disrespectful because Rotimi Amaechi is his boss in politics. When he was local government chairman during Amaechi’s second term, it was Amaechi that helped him rise,” Abati said.
He went further to remind viewers of Wike’s past public insults toward elder statesman Peter Odili and his wife, whom Wike once referred to dismissively as “one man and one woman.” Abati also recalled Wike’s falling out with Senator John Mbata, whom he described as Wike’s former godfather.
The media personality expressed concern that Wike could turn against President Tinubu in the same way, noting:
“President Tinubu should beware. Tomorrow, he will also abuse this same President Tinubu. This man is not loyal to anyone—just his own permanent interests.”
Abati’s comments have since sparked renewed debate over Wike’s political conduct and loyalty, with many wondering whether his controversial style could pose a long-term risk to the administration he currently serves.
