Ned Nwoko has reacted to his loss in the Delta North APC senatorial primary, claiming he was assured of an automatic ticket before defecting to the ruling party
The primary election was won by former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who secured 113,309 votes.
Nwoko finished behind with 2,612 votes, while Maryam Ali reportedly polled 40 votes.

Following the outcome, Nwoko dismissed the results and accused party officials of irregularities and manipulation during the exercise.
During an appearance on Prime Time, the senator explained that some politicians who joined the APC were given assurances regarding inclusion in party leadership and appointments by the party’s former national chairman.
Nwoko also maintained that he agreed to join the APC because he had been promised an automatic ticket ahead of the election process.
“I, myself, and others were promised that there would be discussions on the new structure of the party, and we believed that there would be some… power sharing formula. We were told, for example, that the state executive would be dissolved and there would be nominations to enable the old APC to get a foothold into the government, but that was never done.”
“I certainly was told before I came into the party that there would be automatic ticket for me, and why would I just leave like that without making sure that I have a secure ride?”
Despite the official result, the senator insisted he performed strongly across the district and claimed he won in most wards.
“We won in 98 wards. All that Ifeanyi Okowa did was just to throw evidence of one ward where there was an issue.”
