Reno Omokri has issued a lengthy response after Afrobeats superstar Davido mocked him, calling him “Umu Bingo” and “fowl” after their disagreement over the singer’s World Cup appearance and comments about Omokri’s diplomatic posting.
The controversy began after Omokri criticised Davido for using a FIFA World Cup-related platform to publicize the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, arguing that such global exposure could unintentionally benefit terrorist groups.
Their disagreement resurfaced when Davido reacted to Omokri’s explanation that his ambassadorship posting to Mexico had been delayed due to World Cup-related engagements, responding with: “UMU BINGO @renoomokri fowl.”

In his reply, Omokri addressed Davido directly, saying:
“Dear Mr. David Adeleke AKA @Davido,
Thank you for your feedback. I was rather surprised by your response to my post… Most shocking is your insult.
You are an international celebrity whom Nigeria is proud of. Coming to insult me on my Instagram profile with such vulgar words should be beneath you.”
He went on to restate his position on Davido’s World Cup advocacy, insisting his concern was about security implications rather than personal criticism.
“Yes, I am aware that you were upset at my appeal to you not to use an international platform, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to give publicity to bandits and terrorists,” he said.
Omokri explained that while Davido’s intention may have been to pressure authorities, he believed the outcome could be counterproductive.
“I did that because while your intention may be good and you think you are pressuring the government, the actual effect of what you did is to give publicity to the terrorists and help them spread fear, recruit new members, and raise funds,” he stated.
He further argued that other global figures have avoided similar actions on international stages, citing American streamer IShowSpeed, whom he said used the World Cup platform to promote Nigeria positively instead.
“…meanwhile, at that same event, and on that same day, IShowSpeed, an American citizen, used his celebrity and the global stage of the World Cup to market Nigeria by wearing a Nigerian jersey and speaking well of the same country you de-marketed.”
Omokri also referenced global incidents such as the October 7, 2023 attacks in Israel, arguing that celebrities abroad did not publicly amplify such crises during major international events in order not to aid terrorist messaging.
“There are many celebrities bigger than you… yet none of them used such platforms to say anything about the October 7 abduction because they know that publicity helps terrorists and hurts hostages.”
Despite the heated exchange, Omokri ended his message on a conciliatory note:
“Thanks again, and may God bless you.”
