Gu.nmen demand ₦200m ransom for Catholic priest

Abductors of Rev. Fr. Thomas Oyode, have demanded a ₦200 million ransom for his release

His abductors made a contact with the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, and demanded the sum of money for his release from captivity.

The Director of Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, confirmed the ransom demand in a text message to journalists in Benin, simply saying “It is true”.

However, a source who asked not to be named, said:

“The k!dnappers on Monday evening contacted the Auch Catholic Diocese and asked them to pay ₦200 million if they want them to release the k!dnapped priest.

“As at yesterday, negotiation was yet to commence with the K!dnappers and I don’t know whether the Catholic family will discussed ransom negotiation.”

Rev. Fr. Oyode was k!dnapped by gunmen on Sunday at about 7pm at Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary School, Ivanokpodi, in Agenegbode, Etsako East local government area of Edo state.

The gunmen reportedly k!dnapped two students after sporadic shootings.

Rev Fr. Oyode however pleaded with the kidnappers to free the students and instead k!dnap him who is the Rector and custodian of the students.

The gunmen were said to have heeded the Rev.Father’s plea, and released the two students before going away with him.
