Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken legal action to challenge her six-month suspension from the Nigerian Senate, describing it as politically motivated and a violation of her rights

The suspension, handed down in March 2025, followed allegations of misconduct, including speaking without recognition, refusing to sit in her designated seat, and making what Senate leaders called “abusive” remarks. However, Natasha claims the punishment was retaliation for her sexual harassment accusations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In her lawsuit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the senator representing Kogi Central is seeking N100 billion in damages. She argues that the Senate’s actions not only violate her fundamental rights but also disenfranchise her constituents.
The court is expected to hear contempt applications related to the case today, Tuesday, May 13. The case has drawn widespread attention, with civil rights advocates warning of its broader implications for democracy, accountability, and women’s representation in Nigerian politics.
