Trump announces two‑week pause on Iran strikes

2

Late Tuesday, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he would delay military action against Iran for the next two weeks. The decision came after he spoke with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, who urged him to hold off.

Trump explained the pause depends on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz safely and immediately. In his words:

“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir… and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE!”

He noted that the U.S. has already achieved its military objectives and hinted that a broader agreement might be within reach. He described a 10-point proposal from Iran as a workable starting point, suggesting the situation is nearing a resolution.

“On behalf of the United States of America… it is an Honor to have this Longterm problem close to resolution,” Trump wrote.

The pause comes just hours before an 8 p.m. ET deadline he had set, after warning that Iran could face catastrophic consequences if the strait remained closed.

For now, the president’s announcement buys time for negotiations while linking peace directly to safe passage through this critical shipping route.
